Building Your Online Personality

This article came from an inspirational moment after reading an article on thenetworkmarketingmagazine (dot) com.  In it, the writer expresses that computer technology cannot take the place of the face-to-face sales technique.  For me, the personality that I can build and let shine through computer technology, is altogether more professional than I can manage in person.

So how do you build that online personality?  Well, the best way and the first thing you should consider when building your online personality, is by building a blog.  A blog lets you put your thoughts forward to your readers through articles of your own (if you wish), or by selecting articles that you consider appropriate for your blog.  You need to make it generic (suitable for any business online) and, as we are building our personality, you need to express your thoughts and feelings in a way that suits you.

The next way is through article marketing.  Just like this, you need to express yourself in the way that suits you.  It is important to add an ‘Expert Articles New Article Alerts’ box in your blog.  Then your readership can sign up to your articles and get to know you through them.

In social media you can express yourself more freely.  You can write anything you like.  Having said that, if you want to build a professional image, you have to be wary and only write the kinds of things that make you look like a professional to your contacts.  In social media, you really need to express your personality.  You can talk about your family, hobbies, religion, political views and anything that helps a reader to get to know you better.

With IM (Instant Messaging) services, you need to be careful.  You need to build your professional image by quick thinking and typing.  It is easy for the person you are speaking to, to think that maybe you are not as experienced or as professional as you are, but IM’s are just a way for people to communicate freely.  You need to care more about the person you are speaking to and let them know that you care.  The network marketing industry is 80% give and only 20% take.  It’s important to remember that at all times, but especially in IM services.  Therefore, don’t thrust your opportunity down the throat of the person you are talking to on your first conversation.  Even if they ask, don’t try to force them to join.  It doesn’t do any favours for your online personality, at all.

Another way of developing your online personality is through email.  People will be happy to hear from you if you let them have valuable content – free ebooks, free video courses, other free business development tools and more.  It all helps to build that magical personality.

In conclusion, building your online personality is all part of branding yourself.  We all hear the term ‘branding yourself’, but what does that mean?  It basically means building your own self image and letting people get to know you and your name.

I decided to invest a substantial amount of time researching Twitter because I knew I could be getting more benefit from Twitter than I was receiving. I knew I could get more twitter followers to learn from and share with in the Twitter community.

First I learned about HootSuite dot com, which is a great FREE Twitter software tool that allows you to post not only to Twitter but you can add Facebook, LinkedIn and Ping.fm. Have you ever visited Ping.fm? Their service allows you to create 30 social network and social bookmarking accounts and link Ping to them so you can create one post that will go to all those sites automatically.

Once you have your social networking and bookmarking accounts created you can then link your Hootsuite account to Ping.fm, which will allow you to make one post in Hootsuite, which will allow you to create many posts and then schedule them to be sent out in the future. These are great tools to get started in Twitter but there are some flaws.

The biggest flaw to me is that you can get a lot of people to follow you, build a Twitter community and do it semi-automatically but how do you un-follow people? When you add people that do not want to follow you back you may want to remove them from your list. If you have ever tried you know it is probably a project you never completed, at least I didn’t. This is when I looked into Twitter Marketing Software that would automate many of the Twitter tasks.

The benefits of software for Twitter are numerous and I will list them. I can’t tell you which is the best Twitter software but I will give you a list of the features that I think are necessary.

How to find Targeted Followers
Look for software that will allow you to search for the right followers by keywords, profile data, location or who they are following or who is following them.

Export/Import Options
I learned a long time ago to make sure easy backup options are programmed in to the software or in the worst case, the back up is locating an XML file that is easy to locate and save to a folder on your computer.

Add New Twitter Followers
Adding new people you want to follow should be as easy as clicking one button to send a number of tweets and better yet, there is an option in the program to automate all your follows so you don’t even have to do this part. Make sure it is Twitter auto follow software.

Unfollowing Twitter Accounts
As I mentioned before if you have ever tried to determine which accounts you want to unfollow because they are not reciprocating the follow you know it is very tedious and not worth the time you would have to invest. The software you get should perform this task automatically. When I set up my software to do this I was amazed, I was able to sit back and watch all the tasks performed automatically. The software I use even allows you to set a time limit in days for people to follow you back or the program automatically unfollows the Twitter follower. Sweet.

Safelist
A good program will have a safelist that will enable you to make a list of people that would not get unfollowed in case a mistake is made during operation.

Messages
Being able to automate your messages is a big time saver. This means when someone follows you your software will automatically send him or her a “thank you for the follow” message. You can also use the message option to broadcast a message to all of your twitter followers. If you think you will need to attach files or music make sure you have that option in the software that you purchase.

Tweets
Make sure the Twitter desktop software that you purchase will allow you to set up your tweets and post them automatically to your Twitter wall. Being able to load your tweets from a file is invaluable as well as being able to export your list. There are strategies to using different lists on a rotation to keep your content fresh for your followers. Strategy is a whole other topic that I will cover in the future. Some Twitter software will allow you to post your tweets from your list and remove them as they are posted on a pre-determined schedule or you may be able to set the program to post your tweets in random order and then to be deleted as they are tweeted or to have the list keep rotating. This way you could have a list posting all day for you automatically.
Of course the software should also allow you to manually post tweets to your Twitter account.

Replies
The Twitter software you choose should also have the option to set up automatic replies to people that Tweeted you.

Mac Compatible
Not all Twitter applications are Mac compatible so if you work on a Mac this is an important detail. I operate on a Mac so I did have to find Twitter software for Mac.

Conclusion: If you are serious about building a large and solid Twitter community you need to find the right automated Twitter software for you.

Blow ‘em Away…With Facebook

So you’ve heard that social networks are an awesome way to build business for yourself, but how do you make the most of them?  It’s a big world and it’s easy to get lost in, but it can have amazing results on your business, if you know how to use it.

My favourite networks are YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.  We are going to concentrate on Facebook in this article.  There are capabilities for you to incorporate Twitter and facebook accounts so that when you type a tweet on Twitter, it is published on your Facebook page too.

The way I use Facebook now is totally awesome.  If you click on Groups on your Home Page and then ‘Start a Group’ in the top right corner, you can then create a group on any aspect of business, or indeed anything else that you can imagine.  There are always people interested in what you have to say.

I created my group ‘Online Business For Free’.  It is all about free ways that you can use to grow your business online.  You follow the instructions.  They are quite simple and straight forward.

Once you have your group created, you go to your friends list and select all the people who you would like in your list.  You can select as many people as you like.  Now, that will give you a little boost at first, but that’s only really your first footsteps in this strategy.

Once you have sent your invitations to your present friends, you can add more friends to your profile friendship group by going to certain Facebook groups and adding new people.  You just go to a relevant group, click on ‘View All’ contacts and then ‘Add as Friend’ when you get the list.  It is important that you invite between 50 and 100 new contacts every day.  Any more than that, may be thought of, by facebook as spamming.

When the people confirm you as a friend, you go to your group page and invite the new friend to your Facebook Group.  You then have that person in your group for as long as you like.  It’s an awesome way to build a following online, and it’s a totally free of charge way to build a long-term income for yourself for the rest of your life and a great financial inheritance for your family for many years to come.

Some Great Changes

You will notice that in the features area at the top of my blog now includes the ability to translate text to any of more than 30 languages.  As well as this, you also have the ability to connect with me on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube and share my blog with all your email friends, so please do so.  If you are impressed with what you have found here, please subscribe to the RSS and also let all your contacts know about my blog.

Many of you are familiar with the song, “One day at a time…” and are well aware that time management and making life changes are works of ‘today.’ Yet, there remains a constant demand for time management articles, tips, books, consultants and audio courses. The need to remind ourselves of what we already know is just a fact. When you find your time slipping away, and recognize a need for change, what you’re really looking for is the way to create new habits. This article is the first in a series; an introduction to investing your time wisely.

“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” – Annie Dillard

Success is a Lifestyle

Success isn’t a destination; it is the product of all our days strung together – the quality of our journey. Success isn’t a place, a who, or a what. Success is a lifestyle.

The principles of effective time management are the same as achieving success in most things, whether we’re talking about education, horse training, Bible study, or marriage. Every one of us gets overwhelmed at times, and need to routinely revisit the simple truths of how to live wonderful lives.

Life is All About Today

The first concept of time management and creating new habits is recognizing that the only time we have to work with is today. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow never truly arrives… each sunrise brings a new today. And, no one has an advantage over anyone else when it comes to time. We all have 24 hours in the bank each day. Our success depends on how we invest it.

Until next time, focus on your present habits of time management. How is your life currently programmed to handle time and scheduling issues? Are you a list maker? Do you actually get everything on your list done? Does your head hit the pillow at night thinking only about what didn’t get done today, instead of being grateful for the joy of the day that now ends as you prepare for new opportunities tomorrow?

Thoughts to Ponder

When training horses we look for a one-percent improvement in skills each day. Simple logic tells us that in one hundred days we will arrive at our training destination for a particular exercise. Are your daily goals realistic? A habit of small improvements is the best predictor of great success.

As a horse trainer I always began my day by riding the most challenging horse first. My patience was the greatest, I was fresh, and by working for that one-percent improvement, and always quitting on a high note – I was in a great place to enjoy the rest of the day. Try doing the task you like least first, then get after your list for the rest of the day.

How Important is Today?

Have a great day.

The following article, written by me, has just been submitted to ezinearticles.com.  You can subscribe to my ezine articles by filling in the red and white box above.  Just add your email.

Whatever business you are involved with, it is important that you brand your own name first and foremost.  If you are involved with a company that, for whatever reason, terminates it’s operation, you will need to start another blog if you decide to move to another business.

If you brand yourself, you can work for any business with the same blog and not have to make any drastic changes.  After all, it is you who people will join and not your company.  Many people don’t buy because of the manufacturing company, but rather because you are polite, friendly, experienced and because, most of all, you care about the lives of your prospects.

The best way to brand yourself is as follows.

  1.  Establish a website.  I have mine with WordPress, but it does not matter whether you use WordPress or another good blogging service.  The important points to remember when designing your blog are that it has to be generic (good for people in any business) and also that it has to look good.  Make a video, look for good photographs or take good new photographs.  You have to make it look professional because people will only take you seriously, if your blog makes you look serious about your work.
  2. You need to make yourself more valuable.  You can only make yourself more valuable if you constantly learn more.  Learn about all aspects of marketing, online business, self development and anything related to your success in whatever your niche is.  You need to ask yourself what your niche is.  For instance, if your business is in network marketing, network marketing is your niche.
  3. Increase the numbers of people who you have in your social networks.  In particular, you should focus on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.  It is up to you, but these three are my advice.  When you establish new relationships and new contacts, you can’t go headlong in there and try and force people to join your organisation.  You need to give, give, give and then hopefully you will receive.  Remember that these relationships are 80% give and only 20% take.
  4. You need to add all the top quality content to your blog, at least twice weekly, but the more you update it with great content, the more valuable your blog will be and the more valuable your blog is, the more chance people are going to be sharing your content and increasing your business.
  5. Build your tribe.  Your tribe are people who will happily share your content simply because it is good content that they feel people should be aware of.  In order to establish your tribe, you need to find mentors.  A team of around 5 mentors are a great boost and are helpful in the establishment of any tribe.  You need to treat your 5 mentors as though they are royalty.  Your mentors are the people who you respect most in the industry.  They need to be people who you are totally comfortable with.  The reason for choosing these people to establish your tribe is because they have more people in their lists than most people.  Many of these people have tens of thousands of people in their list.  The idea of a tribe is to provide people with content of value to them.  Maybe this content is not your own, maybe it is the content of someone you have never even met.  By helping people in this way, you are helping others and when people are really happy with something you have done for them, they will promote your business too.

If you are interested in receiving a Fre  7-day course in using social media to improve your business, you can find it at http://www.katiefreiling.com.   Katie is one of the top-earners in the whole industry, another member of the Association of Better Networkers and at only 27 years of age, she has one of the brightest futures imaginable.

Automate Your Twitter Activity for Free

Just a short one today, in order to tell you about a free service I am using to save a lot of my time.  I have been involving myself with Twitter now quite substantially over the past few days.  The only problem I had was that my inbox was full of new followers and direct messages.  In this industry, you need all the time you can get, so it’s best to automate as much as possible.

While I was looking I found something on a site called Social Oomph.  It is free to join and I have saved myself a lot of time and effort, just by requesting through this service that I have all my followers followed and all my new followers will have an automated message.  I don’t know about you, but I think this is a bit of a lifesaver.  It certainly will be worth it’s weight in gold.  Just click here to find out more.

Choose Happiness Now!

Today, I give you an article which I found on ezinearticles.com.  It’s written by Priya Deelchand.  Priya runs an international company from Mauritius where she coaches and mentors people face-to-face or on the telephone with the result of the client’s increased awareness of happiness.  Much of Priya’s teaching comes from Buddhist teaching.

We all want to be happy in life. Today, many of us can easily afford to buy most of the material things in the world, yet we are not happy. Most of us are desperately looking for authentic happiness as we have come to realize that happiness is an essential part for living a fulfilled life. In fact, happiness is our birthright but very few people can sincerely claim to have found true happiness in today’s world.

The Dalai Lama once said “From the moment of birth, every human being wants happiness and does not want suffering. Neither social conditioning nor education nor ideology affects this. From the very core of our being, we simply desire contentment. I do not know whether the universe, with its countless galaxies, stars and planets, has a deeper meaning or not, but at the very least, it is clear that we humans who live on this earth face the task of making a happy life for ourselves.”

We spend a lifetime searching for happiness. Most of us think that happiness is difficult to find and that it is achieved through physical things and circumstances and that we must look for it in the physical world. We very often say things like “If only I could buy that car, then I would be truly happy.” Or “If only I could find the right partner, that would be all I need to be happy.” Or “If only I could earn this job and have a successful career, then life would be truly fulfilling.” Or “If only I could buy my dream house, then life would be just perfect.” All these different statements show that most of the time, we tend to look for true happiness in external things and conditions and as such our happiness tend to be only temporary and short lived. Once our desire is fulfilled in external things, we become unhappy again and tend to look for more and more new external things to find happiness.

Most of us are finding it very difficult to find true happiness because we are looking for happiness in all the wrong places. The truth is that happiness is out birthright and it is a lot closer and easier to achieve than we think. The search for happiness starts and ends within ourselves. We just have to go within and find it. Once we know this truth and start looking for true happiness inside of us instead of outside, our life will no longer be the same and we will find more joy, fulfilment, peace and abundance in our lives. James Oppenheim was right when he said “The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet.”

Happiness is a choice and we have all been provided the free will to choose or not choose happiness. We must all make the choice to be happy every single day of our life. Always listen to the wise words of Groucho Marx who once said “Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow has not arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I am going to be happy in it.”

There is no better time to be happy than… NOW! Savour the beauty of life, live to the fullest and choose to make each day a very happy day!
